The Authority is also highlighting Sharjah\u2019s journey to building knowledge-based communities and advancing a cultural project rooted in dialogue, learning, and public engagement.<\/p>\n<p>During their participation in the international event, which runs until December 7, SBA held 30 meetings with cultural institutions, publishers, and government organisations working across knowledge and creative industries. The programme focused on identifying new areas of collaboration, exchanging expertise, and supporting initiatives that expanded translation, publishing, and the circulation of Arabic content into global languages.<\/p>\n<p>H.E. Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, said the Authority\u2019s international presence reflected Sharjah\u2019s commitment to cultural exchange: \u201cBuilding strong and effective bridges with cities and countries around the world is a core pillar of Sharjah\u2019s cultural project under the leadership of His Highness, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Our presence at international book fairs is a living representation of Arab and Emirati culture, and a way of strengthening its status within global creative and knowledge production.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CEO added: \u201cAt every international engagement we see clear interest in Sharjah\u2019s cultural project and strong appreciation from leading institutions and cultural figures. This has been evident in the response to the Spanish edition of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah\u2019s book <em>The Inquisition: An Investigation of Twenty-Three Files of Cases Committed Against Muslims in Andalusia<\/em>, which has drawn significant attention from visitors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meetings with government bodies in South America<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the book fair, SBA held a meeting with Alejandra Chacoff Ricci, Head of Literature and Bibliographic Heritage and Head of Chile\u2019s Translation Support Programme at the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Vanina Colaggiovani, Publishing Sector Coordinator at the Argentine Creative Industries Market (MICA), to strengthen cultural exchange with South American institutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discussions with Mexican and Spanish cultural institutions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Authority also met with Ver\u00f3nica Mendoza, CEO of the Carlos Fuentes Bookshop at the University of Guadalajara; M\u00f2nica Ganzenm\u00fcller, Market Development Lead for Catalan Arts \u2013 Llibre; and Joaquim Bejarano Rodenas, Director of the Book Area at the Institut Catal\u00e0 de les Empreses Culturals (ICEC), where both sides discussed opportunities to participate in each other\u2019s cultural and literary events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strategic meetings with publishing associations in the Americas and Europe<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SBA also explored collaboration opportunities in rights exchange, translation programmes, and professional development, with representatives of national publishing associations, including Jos\u00e9 Manuel Anta and Fernando Benzo from the Federation of Publishers\u2019 Associations of Spain (FGEE); Philip Hunziker from the Guatemala Publishers Association; Christian Rainone from Fundaci\u00f3n El Libro; Antonio Alonso from the Mexican Publishers Association (CANIEM); Emiro Hern\u00e1n Aristiz\u00e1bal from the Colombian Publishers Association; and Oscar Castillo Rojas, President of the Costa Rica Publishers Association.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meetings with directors of major international book fairs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Discussions were also held with the leadership of major international book fairs, including Ezequiel Mart\u00ednez of the Buenos Aires International Book Fair; Rafael Eduardo Garc\u00eda Gonz\u00e1lez and Henoc de Santiago Dulch\u00e9 of the Monterrey International Book Fair; Adriana \u00c1ngel, Director of FILBO Bogot\u00e1; Claudia Neira Berm\u00fadez of the Centroam\u00e9rica Cuenta Festival; Jos\u00e9 Diego Gonz\u00e1lez Mendoza, Technical Director of CERLALC\u2013UNESCO; and Dejanira \u00c1lvarez and Jos\u00e9 Higuera L\u00f3pez of the New York International Book Fair, exploring opportunities for collaboration and future joint initiatives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Participation in receptions and publishing celebrations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SBA\u2019s programme also included participation in cultural and industry receptions hosted by Canada, Chile, Catalunya, Bologna, Argentina and the Buenos Aires Book Fair, as well as independent publishing houses.
